COMMUNITY EDUCATION IN ACTION
Bears have been historically portrayed in such a way as to cultivate a fearful relationship between us and these highly intelligent and rather timid animals. “Replacing Fear with Knowledge,” is a key component of our educational messaging.
Our bears can be seen in our forested areas, by the waters edge, on hiking trails and in our neighbourhoods. Our Sunshine Coast Bear Alliance believes that we have a responsibility to provide a safe and respectful co-existence within which our coast bears can live. To do this requires a concerted community effort: local governments, commercial establishments, residents and visitors all have a role to play in creating a community that respects and values our bears.
The Sunshine Coast Bear Alliance educates residents and visitors through; educational canvassing, neighbourhood signage, visitor centre information brochures, local media publications, community presentations and appearances at local farmers markets.
